if so, how much does it cost? Not for the appoinment/evaluation/diagnosis, but the medicine alone

i have socila pjobia and i take paxil which without insurance is around 20$ not bad bc they have generis, now im on zoloft and it costs me 10$ and seems to work great. im able to work in public withour pannic attacks and able to go out with my fiance to public places and go out on my own, i used to tkae zanax which u take at the onset of a pannic but i dont need them now bc the zoloft works great, i recommend it bc its the only drug that i have been able to work fine with a small dose rather then a large dose. smaller is better bc you dont feel dependant, there is also celexa which i used but eventually stopped working. still zoloft is the best . my fiance has the same disorder and uses it too

Sorry about stumbling over my words a bit, couldn’t concentrate, and this was quite hard for me to make.

What’s it like to live with social anxiety disorder/social phobia?

Does it reduce you to tears? ect, ect – please just tell me generally what your experience with this are like.
I have this (i’ve been diagonised), but i just wondered what other peoples’ experiences with this are like.

The problem is .. people don’t understand it , they think that it’s nothing but shyness , I noticed that all people who suffer from it are good , kind , and intelligent people ..!!

Can depression lead to a social phobia and/or anxiety disorder?

I have always been a shy person, but lately I have been feeling even more uncomfortable around people; in some cases, good friends or family that I haven’t seen in a while. I recently took one of those online depression tests, and it said I could have clinical depression. My question is, can depression lead to some form of social anxiety disorder?

They are two separate diagnoses but they can be diagnosed at the same time, meds are different. I am on Klonopin for anxiety and Wellbutrin and celexa for depression plus lithium for mood swings.

What is the difference between Social phobia/anxiety disorder and Agorophobia?

They’re not the same thing. Agoraphobia is usually associated with panic disorder and is not a fear of people, but a fear of being outside the home or in certain types of spaces. It almost always comes about from the experience of having panic attacks in unfamiliar environments. Agoraphobics are afraid of these panic attacks and think they can prevent them by avoiding certain places. Gradually this can become a fear of leaving the house.

Severe social phobics may become very hermit-like but this is usually for a different reason – they fear being seen or having to interact with people. (Agoraphobics usually are comforted by being around people). It’s also unusual for social phobics to be unable to leave the house altogether. But even in that case, the severe social phobic will have no problem leaving the home if they feel they don’t have to worry about interaction or being seen (e.g. at night, or to go for a drive, whatever).

Edit: That’s not to say that you can’t have both disorders, or have symptoms of both disorders.

Will the Marine Corps grant me a waiver for social phobia/social anxiety disorder?

I’m a freshman in college and I’m trying to become an officer in the Marine Corps. I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder three years ago and was on zoloft for two years. I went off the drug with the doctor’s permission a year ago and haven’t seen a psychiatrist since then. Do you think they will grant me a waiver?

I’m not gonna lie, it depends on what MEPS in the country ur going to and where u’d be going to boot. if you’re a male west of the Mississippi u’ll go to San Diego… if you’re a Male East of that line you’ll go to Parris Island. And all females go to Parris Island. I’ve personally met the Commanding General of Parris Island and know that he is more forgiving to medical waivers then whoever the hell runs San Diego

Social phobia disorder – Recognizing The Condition

social phobia disorder is a diagnosis within psychiatry and other mental health professions referring to excessive anxiety in social situations causing considerable distress and impaired ability to function in at least some areas of daily life.

The diagnosis can be of a specific disorder or a generalized disorder. Generalized social anxiety disorder typically involves a persistent, intense, and chronic fear of being judged by others and of potentially being embarrassed or humiliated by one’s own actions. These fears can be triggered by perceived or actual scrutiny by others. While the fear of social interaction may be recognized by the person as excessive or unreasonable, considerable difficulty can be encountered overcoming it.

Physical symptoms often accompanying social anxiety disorder include excessive blushing, sweating , trembling, palpitations, nausea, and stammering and in some extreme cases sialorrhea. Panic attacks may also occur under intense fear and discomfort. An early diagnosis may help in minimizing the symptoms and the development of additional problems such as depression.

Some sufferers may use alcohol or other drugs to reduce fears and inhibitions at social events. It is very common for sufferers of social phobia disorder to self-medicate in this fashion, especially if they are undiagnosed or untreated, which can lead to alcoholism or other kinds of substance abuse.
