I am a certified, licensed hypnotherapist. I believe most anything can be overcome with hypnosis. When the post hypnotic suggestion covers the phobia, you feel most comfortable in that situation. Still, as a psychologist, I do believe that realizing why you have the fear is MORE helpful. Actually, I used to feel terrified in front of a group. Then, I learned to channel THAT feeling into a fully acceptable way of using that energy to entertain people and to make speeches, etc.. I love being in front of a group, now. (Not fearing as I did as a child and teen).
There is a belief out there that it can, but like other psychological therapies you have to want to change and WANT to be involved in the solution, not just rely on pills or therapists to fix your problems themselves

Absolutely. Hypnosis is highly underrated.

With a qualified hypnotist yes.
Phobias exist ONLY in the mind and hypnosis by seeking the unconscious memories that are buried deep may be able to reveal, and then eliminate the cause e.g. a great fear of heights caused by looking over the edge of the Hoover dam age 3.
However, in the hands of a bad or unqualified hypnotist, dredging up some of the horrors that lie within the unconscious mind could exacerbate the problem.
At any rate, the usual crap "Take two tablets with a glass of water and call me in the morning" will avail nothing. And a good hynotherapist can accomplish in a couple of weeks what it would take six years of traditional psychoanalysis.
My hypnotherapist was unable to resolve my particular phobia however as it was pantophobia or fear of everything!
