I have a bad social phobia, i have had this for like 6 years and its not getting better, i am now receiving help, when i am around people i dont know i feel so nervous and feel so panicky and hate crowded places , makes me so nervous and paranoid, any one out there has the same problem?
There must be a reason for this phobia. Some bad experience over six years ago. Try to identify the root or possibly a couple of things that are the underlying reason for this which has been amplified by your own paranoia. Once you can identify the issue/issues (probably a mistake/mistakes you have made, but it could be other sides of human nature) into a sentence or a couple of sentences, you have to realise this is the past and try to move on. The past can produce powerful ghosts that can dominate the present. Good luck, I’m speaking from experience we all make mistakes!!!

Yes, and it boils down to past experiences. Continue your treatment you need it.

I have always acted this way. i worked in restaurants after high school and I am slowly getting better. I have more confidence, but strangely I now know I prefer to be a loner.
Maybe you should work at a place where you are forced to interact with people. Just pick a place that is friendly, not where you are bound to have bad experiences (such as working at the customer service desk at a retail store.)

you have panic attack syndrome and a very smalldose of xanax might help/// you say you are receiving help so I hope they can help you with this…talk more to your counselor

Yes, I use to have it severely, but then my doctor proscribed me prozac, (depression medicine) And it really helped open me up socially. Now, after taking the medicine for a few years, I have been able to talk and make so may friends that I don’t need medecine any more. On some days, I will feel like that, but not very often.

I hate going to stores when there are hoards of people there. Crowded elevators make me nauseous.
I haven’t been diagnosed with claustrophobia, but I understand what if feels like when you feel like people are out to get you.
But really, it’s all in our head.

yeah happens to me.. but it has a lot to do with self esteem, may be you feel less.
It gets better when i think that i dont give a f… of their opinions.
You have to think that they are people just like you with the same fears and insecurities.

Everyone feels that way some times. Maybe you need to be more assertive with yourself. Try an "assertiveness training class". If you can be outspoken and speak clearly, you feel more confident and start to enjoy having people listen to you. Think selfish and be less pleasing to others.

I know what you mean. I don’t like being around people much either. That’s why I go to bathroom a lot…I am nervous around them and I need to escape even for few minutes.
Whenever I am forced to do something by myself in big group of people, I always refuse to do it. I get super paranoid and I feel like they will kill me somehow. No, they don’t. I just want any reasons to not jump into big crowd.
I have never been treated but I have been rescued by my husband. He makes me do lots of things I don’t want to do but it usually ends up being really fun and I want to do it again. Best example is, I now have friends and I feel lot better around them. Of course I go to bathroom lot less.
I hope you will get over your fear soon! Take care!

This is because of a traumatic experience of yours when you were 6 years old. I suggest you try healing this phobia by hypnosis. It’s the best way to come over it. I garantee that you’ll change completely in just a few weeks and you’ll be like this for the rest of your life. This is because the doctor will hypnotise you and make you go back to the day of your forgotten experience and make you OK. I know a friend of mine who used to be afraid of dogs and got over it in a week. That’s why I highly recommend you this way.

When I joined Yahoo answers I made a decision to keep my personal life private but I have changed my mind.
I have severe Bipolar Disorder. I get panicky too when I go out. I went to Brighton Friday night to see Darren Hayes with my partner, I was really nervous as allways, but I find that when i am actually there I am OK.
But, like you, I dont like social crouds. I dont like being the focus of attention.
Honestly, I dont know the simple answer, there isn’t one. Councelling is great and there are two drugs in the UK licensed for social phobia – paroxetine and moclobemide.
